Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis expressed that his side will be gunning to win the remainder of the games following the comprehensive 112-run win against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Notably, Faf and Co. posted a competitive total of 171 runs in the first innings as the skipper notched up his seventh half-century (55 off 44) coupled with Glenn Maxwell’s 54. Faf continued his diomination with the bat as he managed to retain the IPL 2023 Orange Cap. However, in the midst of the chase, Bangalore extended their domination as they blew away the Royals for a paltry 59 runs, thereby earning a massive 112-run victory.
A spirited bowling unit operated in tandem to land the blows as Wayne Parnell returned a three-wicket haul whereas Karn Sharma and Michael Bracewell got two wickets apiece. After brushing aside the Royals, skipper Faf stated that his side will be eager to obtain favourable results in the final two group fixtures for a place in the playoffs.
"It was really good. We needed it, in terms of the NRR. Hopefully we can set it up for that last game against GT at the Chinnaswamy. Today was really good for the team and I am sure everyone will be extremely motivated for the next two matches. That (setting the intensity high) is a non-negotiable for us. Everyone celebrating with real passion, that is very nice to see,” told Faf during the post-match presentation.
RCB lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, May 18 in an away fixture before heading back to the Chinnaswamy Stadium where they play Gujarat in their final league game on Sunday, May 21.
Explosive hitter Shimron Hetmyer top-scored for the Royals, as he slammed a 19-ball 35 which featured four sixes and one four. However, with the rest of the batting unit falling like a deck of cards, RCB comfortably stamped their authority and are still alive in the race for a playoff spot.
