The ongoing solitary Test in the Women's Ashes has been a fine contest between two strong batting sides. While Australia scored 473 in the first innings, courtesy of a brilliant maiden hundred from Annabel Sutherland, and a 99 from Ellyse Perry, England, in reply, finished Day 2 at 218/2 with opener Tammy Beaumont scoring a fine century.
Day 3 is called the moving day of a Test match. It will be intriguing to see which team gains the upper hand. The day will also witness a special initiative off the field. Fans have been urged to come to the stadium wearing 'Red' to show their support and build awareness towards this year's #RedforRuth campaign. Notably, the charity foundation which conducts this initiative was established in fond memory of the former England captain, Andrew Strauss' late wife, Ruth Strauss, in 2019.
This initiative will begin the buildup towards the fifth annual #RedforRuth day that is scheduled on Day 2 of the Lord's Test in the Men's Ashes, beginning June 28. Having been founded in 2019, after Ruth passed away, the Ruth Strauss Foundation has raised more than £3 million. She was diagnosed with an incurable non-smoking lung cancer and she eventually passed away, at the age of 46.
"The harsh reality is that since I set up the charity, around 185,000 children will have lost a parent. We are immensely proud and grateful for what we have been able to achieve so far - but we have a long way to go. The ambition is to help as many people as possible, and days like #RedforRuth at Lord's are vital for us to keep going," Strauss was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
The goal of the Foundation is to offer emotional support from professionals to children whose parents have been diagnosed with incurable cancer so that they are prepared better to handle the impending unfortunate event. The other goal is to raise awareness and facilitate better research in order to tackle incurable lung cancer.
It's a great cause and the whole England team is fully behind the foundation and its incredible work: Heather Knight
England captain Heather Knight scored 57 runs off 91 balls on Day 2. She spoke about how big an admirer she has been of the Ruth Strauss Foundation and also expressed her team's support towards their initiative.
"I've been a huge admirer of the Ruth Strauss Foundation since the first ever Red for Ruth and I'm delighted the foundation is coming to the Trent Bridge Test to raise awareness of the amazing work they do. It's a great cause and the whole England team is fully behind the foundation and its incredible work," Knight stated.
