Lucknow Super Giants pacer Yash Thakur picked up 13 wickets in nine matches in the recently concluded, Indian Premier League. He has been a vital part of the project as the cricketer managed to bowl well in the powerplay, provide breakthroughs in the middle overs and do well in the death. Under the leadership of Krunal Pandya, the cricketer was very aggressive with the ball and eventually; it helped him gain more confidence and do well in the cash-rich league.

Meanwhile, talking about his relationship with mentor Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata-born cricketer mentioned that his approach is very different from others as the 41-year-old always thinks about winning trophies rather than just participating in it. Thakur also added that Gambhir created a brilliant atmosphere in the team as everyone was treated equally in the camp.

“I was very lucky to share the dressing room with GG sir (Gautam Gambhir). His approach is very different, he always reminds us that we have to win the trophy and every single game is important in the tournament. He made sure be it an international or domestic player everyone is equal in the team. The atmosphere he created in the team was commendable - how can we work out our plans, how can we bounce back - we were like a family,” Thakur said while talking to News18.

Thakur talks about Gambhir’s message to him before making his IPL debut

Yash Thakur further stated that he admires Gambhir since his childhood days and thus, he was nervous about playing under the former cricketer’s guidance. However, the 24-year-old mentioned that Gambhir motivated him ahead of the season and that helped him throughout the season.

“When I was selected in the auction, I was a bit nervous about playing under Gautam Gambhir’s guidance because I admire him since my childhood days. I was a big fan of his batting and captaincy. When I played my first match, he just told me one thing, ‘You are here because you deserve it.’ He advised me to not take much pressure and play it like any other domestic match," the pacer stated.

"He was always there, whenever anyone needs him he was always there for a chat. He was available 24/7 for us, it was not like he acted like a legend and he acted like he was one of them. He guided us, whenever we got time in practice sessions he taught us various aspects of the game. He advised me to calm myself which stood out for me in IPL,” Thakur concluded.
