‘Going to get a heap of spin’ - Matthew Wade gives insight on Australia’s Super Eight preparation

Three back-to-back wins in the ongoing T20 World Cup sealed Australia’s place in the Super 8 of the mega tournament. They have been fantastic in their approach so far and have the quality to challenge for the title once again. David Warner and Marcus Stoinis have been their star performers with the bat while Adam Zampa picked up eight wickets in three matches so far.

Spin will play a massive part as the tournament progresses and Australia would know that. The surfaces in West Indies are already favouring the spinners and this will only increase with time. Keeper-batter Matthew Wade analysed the same and noted that the players have already started preparing for spin-friendly tracks.

He also spoke about Australia’s Super Eight fixture against India in St Lucia and explained that it would be hard for them 

“A lot of us have prepared for plenty of spin depending on what venue you get to. (St Lucia) is a good wicket, (and) might be the venue we play India at, so that'll be nice. But we're going to get a heap of spin. Guys have been preparing for that through the world, through IPL into the start of this World Cup. We expect nothing different, and on their day they're all going to be very very hard teams to beat,” Wade was quoted as saying by the West Australian.

Wade addresses his future in T20I cricket

Wade stated that he hoped that the ongoing T20 World Cup wouldn’t be his last dance for Australia. He mentioned that a lot of new blood can feature in the team in the coming times but he isn’t ready to give up yet. Wade, however, is ready to step aside if the management prefers other cricketers over him.

“I'm at my best when it's the last opportunity. Hopefully, I can pull some good stuff out in the next little bit, but it will be the same conversation at the end of this one. There are going to be players go out of this team. I'm more than comfortable if I'm one of them to get the next cycle of players coming in to play for Australia,” Wade said.
