Jasprit Bumrah once again showcased his unmatched skill in the T20 World Cup clash against Afghanistan in Barbados. Bumrah, known for his ability to adapt to any conditions, delivered a masterclass performance, taking three crucial wickets for just seven runs. This incredible feat set a new record for the most economical spell by an Indian in T20I history, surpassing Arshdeep Singh’s previous record of 4/9.
Bumrah’s performance was not just about the impressive numbers; it was a demonstration of strategic brilliance. Afghanistan started their chase strong, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 13 runs in the first over. However, the pacer's timely intervention in the second over changed the game. He took just two balls to dismiss Gurbaz, who has had an excellent campaign so far.
Having noted the success of slower deliveries in the first innings, Bumrah quickly adapted. He used a slower ball to dismiss Gurbaz and struck again in the powerplay, removing Hazratullah Zazai. His final wicket came in the 16th over, where he dismissed Najibullah, conceding only two runs and ending his spell with remarkable figures of 4-1-7-3.
Cricket legend Brian Lara emphasized Bumrah's status as a world-class bowler who commands respect from every team. Lara noted that batting teams often struggle to prevent Bumrah from making early breakthroughs and highlighted his exceptional talent, calling him one of the greatest bowlers in the game and a valuable asset to India.

“He's a world-class bowler, and he's one of those guys that every single team respects. Sometimes I feel that a batting team should ensure that he does not make an early breakthrough. If you don't give him an early breakthrough, then you may feel you can attack other bowlers, but he is Bumrah. Hardly any batting team is capable of taking him apart. He's just outstanding, and India has a gem. They have one of the greatest bowlers that have ever played the game,” Lara said on Star Sports.
Bumrah's importance to the Indian team is undeniable. Leading the pace attack, he has consistently delivered match-winning performances. His previous display against Pakistan, where he took three wickets and conceded only 14 runs, earned him the Player of the Match award.
