Other than scoring a phenomenal century against Kolkata Knight Riders earlier in the season, star England batter Harry Brook hasn’t done much in the ongoing IPL 2023. In nine matches so far, the 24-year-old has managed to score only 163 runs at a strike rate of 121.64 and because of the same, former Australia international Brett Lee believes that the Sunrisers Hyderabad team management should bench him for a couple of games in order to help him understand things better.

Notably in SRH’s last match against KKR on May 4, Brook failed to open his tally as the Aiden Markram-led side lost by five runs. Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram’s valiant efforts went in vain as KKR defended only nine runs in the final over of the game. Thus, with Brook not contributing much as of now, Lee believes that SRH are losing a spot at the moment since the cricketer is not in the right head space.

“He is obviously a class player. He has got Test hundreds. He has got a hundred here as well. But I feel SRH are losing a spot. Maybe they bring someone else instead of Harry Brook for a couple of games. Nothing against Harry Brook, he is a gun. But he is not in the right mindset,” Lee said while talking to JioCinema.

Robin Uthappa bats for Glenn Phillips as Brook’s replacement

Former India international Robin Uthappa believes that New Zealand stumper-batter Glenn Phillips can be the ideal replacement for Harry Brook in SRH's playing XI. Uthappa however believes that Brook will learn more with time but since it’s not working at all at the moment, SRH should consider Phillips to bat at number six.

“Probably, someone else at No. 6 instead of Harry Brook. He is having a pretty lean run. They have Glenn Phillips who can bat in the middle-order. If it's not working, it's not working, you have got to enough opportunities and if it's not coming off, it's not.

“He has been on a lean patch after that hundred. He will get better at playing in India as time goes on. He will figure out a solution. He is too good a batter not to find out a solution,” the 37-year-old mentioned.

Meanwhile, following their defeat at the hands of KKR, SRH remain at number nine on the IPL points table.
