Former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith lavished massive praise on Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, courtesy of his impressive stint in the ongoing IPL 2023. Jaiswal’s stupendous campaign has won hearts all over as he has collected 572 runs in 12 appearances at an excellent average of 52.27.
In addition to this, the young southpaw laced his campaign with four half-centuries coupled with one ton and is on course to clinch the IPL Orange Cap. Delighted with his impressive knocks, Graeme Smith stated that the BCCI will have a happy headache in terms of selecting the young talents, namedropping the likes of Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, and Shubman Gill.
“In terms of selection, he (Jaiswal) is certainly knocking down the door. That is all he can do at the moment right now. He has controlled that. Indian cricket is blessed with a lot of options like senior cricketers in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, who is injured now. You also have Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. The selectors surely have some nice headaches to have but Yashasvi has certainly put his name right up there in the conversation,” Smith was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
His stroke play has made him dynamic: Graeme Smith
Notably, Jaiswal in his most recent outing against KKR, grabbed the headlines with his blistering knock of an unbeaten 98 off 47 balls which included 12 fours and five sixes. Smith, who has been following Jaiswal's domestic performances, opined that the 21-year-old has shown growth and made significant strides from the previous IPL season.
"Well, he has been incredible. I have watched some of his domestic performances which have been really good. You can also see a growth in his game from the last season of IPL. I have loved watching him play. He has just got a natural ability to find the gap. He has got stroke play, particularly on the off side and has developed strength on the leg side which has made him dynamic," he added.
