Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tim David snatched the game away from Rajasthan Royals (RR) after walloping three massive sixes on the trot off Jason Holder in a thrilling affair on April 30. Following the high-volage action at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, David expressed compassion for the rival pacer after he iced through the record chase.
Notably, the five-time winners trumped the inaugural champions by six wickets in the landmark 1000th match of the IPL. Courtesy of a phenomenal knock by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 124 off just 62 balls, the Royals posted a humongous 212 runs in the first innings but it was not enough in the end.
Mumbai remained steady in the contest as Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green played vital knocks and got 55 and 44 runs, respectively. As the match came down to the wire, finisher David proved his mettle and slammed three towering sixes on the trot off Holder to snatch the game away from the Royals. During the post-match presentation, he described that it was difficult for the bowlers to grip the ball, especially for Jason Holder in the final over.
“It was tough bowling. It was very sweaty to grip the ball. As a batter, you have a feeling when you get the momentum. It was very important that the first ball went for six. It’s a tough role for him [Jason Holder]. I feel for him because it was tough for everyone bowling at all stages,” David said.
David's blitzkrieg included five maximums and two fours in an unbeaten 14-ball 45. Moreover, he was impressed with Jaiswal’s fabulous ton, which featured 16 fours and eight sixes. Jaiswal earned the Player of the Match award despite ending up on the losing side.
“He played an amazing innings. Congratulations to him. It was very good to watch. He’s a Mumbai boy, so on his home turf that must be special for him. I don’t know if it is his first hundred in the IPL, but an amazing knock, so well done to him,” he added.
