Babar Azam-led Pakistan have completely made a shift in their momentum in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 campaign as the side is set to play the summit clash on Sunday, November 13. However, such was not the case a few weeks ago as everyone believed the Men in Green to be one step closer to an exit.

Luck tilting towards their end on the final day of Super 12 fixtures that coupled with a great performance against New Zealand in the semi-final, has rightfully earned them a spot in the finals of the marquee event Down Under. Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam rose to the occasion with his sensational performance with the bat and guided the side to the finals.

After getting ousted from the 2019 Cricket World Cup, Babar Azam replaced Sarfaraz Ahmed as the skipper in all formats of the national side. Former Pakistan international and 1992 World Cup-winning captain, Imran Khan claimed that he engineered the move for the player’s captaincy in the side.

"Our cricket was going through a bad time when I was the Prime Minister. I only watched him (Babar) play twice and immediately asked the head of the cricket board, you must make him the captain because he is genuinely world-class,” Imran was quoted as saying while speaking to Piers Morgan on his 'TalkTV' show.

Pakistan on the cusp of clinching World Cup title

The Men in Green are only one step away to clinching the coveted title as they lock horns with a formidable English side in the summit clash. The former Pakistan cricketer, Imran Khan further praised the player as he was left impressed with the versatility, he possesses.

“He is exceptional and I haven't seen a player with such versatility and correct technique, such stroke play, and temperament; he could go anywhere from here. Him as the captain makes a lot of sense because you want your captain to be world-class so that he commands respect,” concluded Imran.
