Veteran Australian batter Steve Smith recently came forward to discuss his future in international cricket. The 34-year-old has amassed many runs for Australia over the years across formats. Smith has played 322 games for Australia across formats and has amassed 15,755 runs to his name.

However, being 34 years old, there are many people who have been discussing the future of the veteran batter in international cricket. According to him, he opined that he takes it day-by-day rather than setting a date for retirement.

Steve Smith continued by saying that he does not like looking too far into the future, and he likes to enjoy himself in the moment. Besides, Smith also stated that discussing his future is not something that he is keen on worrying about.

“I really just don’t like to look too far ahead. And, you know, I take it series by series, game by game, and just enjoy myself in the moment. We’ll sort all that stuff out, and whatever legacy, whatever that looks like, is not really something for me to bother about. I’m not really fussed about that. Other people can talk about that kind of thing. I just go about my business day by day and just enjoy it," Steve Smith told Fox Sports.

I want to try and help them where I can: Smith

Furthermore, Steve Smith also talked about how he always tries to help youngsters whenever he can. He stated that his door is always open for the young batters on the team. He also opined that helping the skipper and fulfilling his role as the vice-captain is quite important as well.

“I like to go about my business, and, particularly if there are any young players coming through, I want to try and help them where I can. My door is always open if any of the young people want to talk about anything and have a conversation. I’m there to help them learn from, I guess, my experiences as well. And then support the captain as well. That’s my job as vice captain—to help him wherever I can. It’s been fun. I’m enjoying it," Smith concluded.
