Jonny Bairstow was stumped by Alex Carey off the bowling of Cameron Green on the last ball of the 52nd over during the second Ashes Test at Lord's and it has created quite a lot of furore. The English batter strolled out towards Ben Stokes at the non-striker's end after ducking a bouncer. Carey under-armed the ball and hit the stumps to send his opposite number packing. A lot of debate has been going on ever since the incident took place.

Star England batter Joe Root, however, wants the focus to shift to cricket as his team is in serious trouble in the series. The right-hander feels that England are capable of turning the 0-2 deficit in the ongoing Ashes.

"I think it's time for everyone to move on and we can concentrate on this game now," said Root in a press conference ahead of the third Test in Leeds as quoted by Sky Sports.

"We've got to play well for three games and we've shown in our recent form, that we're more than capable of doing that."

After Bairstow's dismissal, three MCC members got involved in a heated argument with Usman Khawaja in the Long Room at Lord's. The three members were later suspended for their actions. Root condemned the members who were at fault and gave out a clear message to the spectators who will come to Headingley for the third Test.

"Support England. That's the most important thing that you come to support your nations. It doesn't need to go beyond that, it should never go beyond that. Everyone should come here to enjoy the cricket on the field.

"It shouldn't be about anything other than that. Come here and support your team to the best of your ability and we'll play to the best of ours, create that brilliant atmosphere that's been created at this ground on so many previous occasions, like in 2019, and we should have a fantastic week."

You're allowed to disagree on certain things: Joe Root

Joe Root explained that there is respect between the two teams but their perspective on the Bairstow dismissal is different.

"There's always going to be respect there [between the teams], but you're allowed to disagree on certain things and see the game differently and clearly that is the case on this topic," Root added.

After scoring a fantastic century in the first innings of the first Test at Edgbaston, the 32-year-old had a forgettable time at Lord's. In the two innings at the 'Home of Cricket', Root was dismissed for 10 and 18, respectively. England will want their talismanic batter to have a memorable outing at Headingley as the hosts have to win the remaining three games to reclaim the Ashes.
