In the lead-up to the much-anticipated ODI World Cup, Indian cricket finds itself grappling with the unavailability of their explosive wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, owing to a regrettable car accident in December. Pant's absence had raised questions about who will don the gloves for the Indian team in the marquee event. While the dynamic KL Rahul seems poised to take on the wicketkeeping duties, the versatile Ishan Kishan is expected to contribute primarily as a middle-order batter.

Reflecting on Pant's meteoric rise in the cricketing world, former Australian wicketkeeping legend Adam Gilchrist acknowledged the profound impact the young Indian cricketer has had during his time with the national team. He lauded Pant's aggressive and fearless style of play, which has not only made him a formidable force but has also served as a source of inspiration for wicketkeeper-batters worldwide.

"I think Rishabh has inspired a lot of wicket-keeper batters around the world to play that [aggressive] way. It is fascinating for such a young man to have such an impact that Rishabh has had, and others are responding and playing in that positive manner," Gilchrist was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

‘They are well stocked’- says Gilchrist on team India’s balance ahead of World Cup

In 28-year-old's absence, the Indian team finds itself well-equipped with alternative options behind the stumps. KL Rahul, who has proven his mettle as a wicketkeeper-batter, is likely to take the mantle, while Ishan Kishan, who made the most of his opportunity during Rahul's absence due to injury, stands ready to contribute with his explosive batting skills. Addressing this predicament, the former Australia opener added,

"They (India) are well stocked. They have got a couple of (wicketkeeping) options there; obviously, when KL was out with his injury, Ishan Kishan took his opportunity and played really well, and now they find themselves in the team together so that's a wonderful case of taking an opportunity”
