I wouldn't keep Sam Curran as batting or bowling all-rounder in squad: Virender Sehwag

The ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League) campaign has not been a kind one for Punjab Kings. With regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan out with injury, England all-rounder Sam Curran has been at the helm of the side and has been leading them in the last few games.

Recently, Punjab Kings were handed their sixth loss of the season after they lost their latest clash against Gujarat Titans. Stand-in skipper Sam Curran’s side posted a total of 142 runs in the first innings and failed to defend it in the second.

The skipper scored 20 runs in 19 deliveries and took a wicket in the two overs he bowled, conceding 18 runs in the process. The same performance did not sit well with former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag. Taking centre stage, Sehwag came forward to scrutinize Curran’s performance and reflect on how he would not pick him in the squad with his current form.

"I wouldn't keep Sam Curran as a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder. Because such a player is of no use, who does some batting and some bowling. Either you win the game with your batting or win the game with your bowling. Either you hit the bullseye or you don't perform at all," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

PBKS slump to ninth place in standings

Punjab Kings are having a season to forget in the IPL 2024 so far. Having played eight games in the tournament so far, Punjab have only managed to register two wins and have lost the remaining six fixtures. Currently, the side finds itself in ninth place in the standings with just four points to their name.

With every loss, a place in the playoffs of the tournament looks too unlikely for the side, and another defeat could guarantee their elimination as well. After their three-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings will now be gearing up for a tough encounter as they take on Kolkata Knight Riders. Both sides will lock horns at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, April 26, in the 42nd game of the tournament.
