The first couple of days of the ongoing first Test match in Nagpur between India and Australia have not been the best for the Kangaroos. The visitors managed were bundled out for 177 in the first innings courtesy of a magnificent bowling display by the Indian team.
Meanwhile, an injury scare to their middle-order batter Matt Renshaw further dented them on the second day. However, the management would be breathing easy as Renshaw returned to the field after passing the fitness test. The 26-year-old sustained a knee injury during the warm-up before the start of the second day.
As confirmed by Cricket Australia, Renshaw reported no major concerns and was cleared for a return to the field after Ashton Agar came in as a substitute for him at the start of the day. “Matthew Renshaw has returned to the field having passed a fitness test,” a team spokesperson was saying as quoted by cricket.com.au. “He is reporting no major concerns. Renshaw will continue to be monitored by team medical staff.”
The visitors are always have plenty of injury woes as they are already missing the services of all-rounder Cameron Green and pacers Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in the first Test.
India continue to dominate the Aussies
Meanwhile, the first two in Nagpur were dominated by the Indian team. An impressive display with the ball on day one and inspirational batting performances by skipper Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel helped the team get into an even more commanding position.
Rohit led from the front with a magnificent knock of 120 off 212 balls before being dismissed by a superb delivery off Pat Cummins. After the skipper’s dismissal, the lower-order batters took charge as both Jadeja and Axar completed their half centuries and took Indian scoreboard past 300-run mark. Both the southpaws are unbeaten at the end of Second Day's play.
One positive to take from the Day Two for the Aussies was the performance of the debutant, Todd Murphy, who was exceptional throughout his spell. The 22-year-old completed his five-wicket haul to dismiss KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, R Ashwin, and KS bharat.
