Legendary Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh sparked controversy with his remarks about Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty during the ODI World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Sunday, November 19.

Harbhajan expressed their doubts about understanding the game while observing Anushka and Athiya engaged in conversation at the stadium during the match. The incident happened in the 18th over of India's innings after Hindi commentator Jatin Sapru was heard saying to Harbhajan that Anushka and Athiya might be hoping for their husbands to stay at the crease together. Notably, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were batting at that time.

“I don’t know if they’re talking about cricket or films, I don’t think they know much about cricket,” the former cricketer said while commentating.

Kohli-Rahul half centuries led Team India to a respectable total despite Australia's good bowling

Speaking of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 final, India lost the toss and were invited to bat first. The Australian bowlers, supported by solid fielding, created a challenging situation for the Indian batters, throughout the first innings. Despite a strong start from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill departed early falling to Mitchell Starc for just four runs.

Virat Kohli then took charge after the dismissals of Rohit and Shreyas Iyer in successive overs. The former captain notched up a half-century and built a 50-plus run partnership with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. Kohli was eventually dismissed for 54 off 63, and Rahul attempted to anchor the innings.

However, India faced another setback when Ravindra Jadeja, promoted ahead of Suryakumar Yadav, fell in the 36th over. The wicketkeeper-batter's innings concluded at 66 runs. Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav then combined for a 14-run partnership for the last wicket, and India were eventually bowled out for 240 in 50 overs. For Australia, Starc claimed a three-wicket haul while Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins made two scalps each.
