India and South Africa will face each other for one final time before the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia in Indore on Tuesday. While the hosts were expected to rest KL Rahul and Virat Kohli for the dead rubber having already won the T20I series, not many felt that left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh will be benched for the final T20I.
Rohit Sharma, who won the toss and opted to field first, revealed that Arshdeep isn't playing due to a back issue. However, he was quick to clear that it is only a precautionary measure and it is nothing serious. The young pacer conceded 62 runs in his four-over spell having come in the way of David Miller's onslaught in the second T20I.
"We're going to field first. It's a very high scoring ground, I feel the pitch won't change a lot so nice to know what target is in front of us. Three changes for us, Rohit and KL are out, and Arshdeep misses out for some issues with his back. It is precautiounary, nothing serious. We've got Shreyas Iyer, Umesh Yadav and Siraj in. We want to keep challenging ourselves, keep improving and keep batting the same way," Rohit Sharma said.
Notably, Rohit had also mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah wasn't playing due to a niggle when the pacer didn't play the first T20I. As it turned out, he has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup.
South Africa bring in all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius
Meanwhile, South Africa didn't make a lot of changes for the final T20I. They rested pace bowler Anrich Nortje who didn't impress much in the first two T20Is and included Dwaine Pretorius. Skipper Temba Bavuma also opened up on his own form and noted that he will be looking to step up for the team.
"Wasn't too sure on what to do today, not too fussed about losing the toss. As a leader, these are the kind of games you want to contribute. Hopefully, I can repay the team today. The series is out of our reach but this is our last opportunity we have to acheive a few objectives ahead of the World Cup. One change today - Dwayne Pretorious comes in for Nortje, just to give an extra option with a change of pace. We need to win today, it is a chance for some of our batters to find some form, and also as a group to try and click together," Bavuma said.
