India pacer Shivam Mavi announced himself to the world when he relished scalping a four-wicket haul in the T20I contest against Sri Lanka. The Hardik Pandya-led team locked horns with the Islanders in the first of the three-match T20I series at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and took the lead 1-0 in the series courtesy of a final ball thriller.

Mavi, who made his debut for the national side in the clash, returned with magnificent bowling figures as he picked four wickets and gave a mere 22 runs in his stipulated four overs. Following the conclusion of the match, Mavi expressed his feelings about making an international debut, calling it 'a dream come true'.

“Simply a dream come true moment for me. It’s my first tour, and getting a chance right in the first game is a big thing. Usually, players don’t the chance this quickly but it happened with me. I waited for six years after the U-19 World Cup and got injured, but I never stopped believing in myself and kept working hard,” Mavi was quoted as saying by News 18.

My plan is to attack in the powerplay: Shivam Mavi

The Uttar Pradesh-born pacer has been a prominent face in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic circuit but was often kept on the sidelines due to injuries. Due to this, young Mavi had to wait for his call-up to don the Men in Blue outfit for nearly six years. He further stated that he had a strategy in place to go about in the contest which could be a reason why the pacer relished terrific figures in his innings.

“After the U-19 World Cup when I played IPL and domestic games, I suffered injuries. But I was clear in my mind that I need to raise my fitness level. I was performing but was getting injured as well. So, I worked hard and got the desired results,” told Mavi.

“I’ve played IPL games at this ground. So, my plan is to attack in the powerplay. Even if I get hit for boundaries, it doesn’t matter. I keep on looking for wickets,” Mavi concluded.
