Indian skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his disbelief and concern over the unavailability of pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the ODI series against Sri Lanka that is scheduled to begin from January 10 (Tuesday). Bumrah wasn't initially the part of the squad announced but he was added to the set up only a few days ago. However, ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, BCCI confirmed that he has been ruled out of the series.

Speaking of the same, Rohit Sharma confirmed that the pacer from Gujarat didn't feel confident about his back. He also highlighted the importance of having a fully fit Bumrah in the team.

“Very unfortunate. The poor guy has been working really hard at the NCA. He felt stiffness in his back a couple of day ago and if Jasprit Bumrah is saying he is not feeling well, you have to pull him out. We need to be extra careful with Bumrah,” Rohit was quoted as saying while addressing a pre-match press conference on the eve of the 1st ODI to be played in Guwahati.

The BCCI had revealed early on Monday that Bumrah has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. “Bumrah, who was set to join the team in Guwahati  ahead of the ODI series, will need some more time to build bowling resilience. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure,” BCCI wrote in its media advisory.

Jasprit Bumrah is out of action since September 2022

Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since a very long time now. His absence from India's campaigns in the Asia Cup as well as the T20 World Cup last year hurt the Men in Blue a lot as they had to endure massive problems in their bowling department, specially in being able to break set partnerships of oppositions.

With an important Test series against Australia coming up in February, team India will be hoping for Jasprit Bumah to get match fit by then.
