Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has requested the Manager of the National Team to submit a report relating to the cricket team’s humiliating 317-run defeat at the hands of India in the third and final One Day International at the Greenfield International Cricket Stadium in Trivandrum .
Chasing a mammoth 391-run target, the Lankans were bundled out for just 73 runs in the 22nd over with only three of their batters managing double-digit scores. Meanwhile, this is the biggest-ever victory in ODI history registered by a team in terms of runs.
Here’s what the SLC statement reads in wake of the national team’s humongous defeat
“The report should consist of views of the Captain, the Head Coach, and the Selection Panel and also the Team Manager pertaining to the loss,” read a statement issued by Sri Lanka Cricket via its official media release.
“SLC has requested the Team Manager to submit the ‘Report,’ within a 5-day period”, the release added.
“The report will enable Sri Lanka Cricket to review and understand the background to the team’s dismal performances during the final ODI, which it lost by 317 runs after being bowled out in 22 overs,” the statement further read.
Earlier, the Indian batters had left the visitors completely demoralized with stupendous batting performances after skipper Rohit Sharma called it right at the toss. In fact, he along with Shubman Gill had laid a solid foundation for the Men in Blue with a 95-run opening stand.
Even though Gill starred with a superb 97-ball 116, the day belonged to Virat Kohli who went on to register his 46th ODI century. He scored an unbeaten 166 runs off 110 deliveries at an outstanding strike rate of 150.9, including 13 fours and eight sixes.
