Young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, who was on the receiving end of some harsh criticism from fans across the social media platforms following his drop against Pakistan, proved his mettle with another spirited last over against Sri Lanka. The pacer almost pulled off an unlikely victory for the seven-time champions, while defending just seven runs in the final over. And when one distasteful fan hurled abuse at the youngster, he was chastised by the others on the spot.

Arshdeep Singh's drop in the match against Pakistan proved to be the decisive factor as India lost the match narrowly. He was the subject of criticism from passionate fans, who took things too far on social media. Many current and former Indian cricketers came to the 23-year-old's aid, including the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

But the bowler showed tremendous character and mental fortitude as he produced another masterclass in death bowling during India's thrilling defeat against Sri Lanka. And when the right-arm pacer was boarding the team bus after the match, a fan hurled abuse at him regarding the drop catch against Pakistan. Arshdeep gave the fan a proper staredown before making his way to the back of the bus.

Vimal Kumar, a renowned Indian journalist, who witnessed the fan's unpleasantries, gave him a deserved telling off and got him to apologize for abusing the cricketer.

Rohit Sharma is happy with Arshdeep Singh's performances for the team

Earlier, the Indian skipper had commented on Arshdeep's confidence and commended him for another terrific final over against Sri Lanka. Rohit revealed that Indian players do not pay attention to social media too much as there is always chatter about a player's mistake.

"Honestly, the guys do not look at social media that much. Too much crap is happening there when we lose games here and there, a drop here and there. Today also, I thought he bowled pretty well in the last two overs. He is a very confident lad, and that is why he is here, ahead of a lot of players who are sitting at their homes. He is a very confident lad and I have not seen many like him early in his career. As a captain and a coach we are very happy with how he takes his game and goes about his business with the ball,” remarked Rohit in the post-match presser after the Sri Lanka game.
