England have produced quite a few talented fast bowlers in recent years and Josh Tongue is certainly one of them. The 25-year-old had a memorable outing against Ireland earlier this year on his England debut as he picked up a five-for in the second innings. He also played the Lord's Test against Australia in the Ashes and finished with match figures of 5/151.

Tongue was named in England's T20I squad for the upcoming four-match series against New Zealand. He was expected to play a part in the series as England are looking forward to creating a substantial pool of pacers ahead of their title defence in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. However, as per a report by ESPNcricinfo, the talented pacer has suffered a pectoral injury and will miss the remaining fixtures of The Hundred as well as the subsequent home series versus the Kiwis.

Tongue's Hundred team - Manchester Originals are set to face Southern Brave in the Eliminator on Saturday, August 26. The winner of this encounter will take on Oval Invincibles in the final on Sunday. Tongue joins fellow pacer John Turner on the sidelines of the T20I series.

Chris Jordan replaces Josh Tongue for T20Is versus New Zealand

With youngsters like John Turner and Josh Tongue missing out, the England selectors have fallen back on the experienced Chris Jordan for the T20I series against the Blackcaps. Jordan played his last T20I against Bangladesh earlier this year.

Considered a white-ball specialist, Jordan has picked up 96 wickets in 87 T20Is at an economy rate of 8.72. The 34-year-old suffered an injury in the early stages of this year's Hundred competition but he recovered swiftly and has played a huge role in helping Southern Brave reach the play-offs in the eight-team competition.
