Mumbai Indians recorded another last-ball thriller to secure two points as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 25th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 18. Cameron Green's maiden IPL fifty helped Mumbai Indians post a big total of 192/5 while batting first as Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers produced another disappointing performance.

Jason Behrendorff bowled a sensational spell in the powerplay overs bagging Harry Brook and Rahul Tripathi to ensure early control of the game for Mumbai. Mayank Agarwal top-scored with 48 off 41, and Heinrich Klaasen smashed a quick 36 off 16 to keep Hyderabad alive in the chase. But Riley Meredith and Piyush Chawla dazzled with two wickets each to secure a deserving win by 14 runs.

Cameron Green's all-round performance

Cameron Green, who cost Mumbai Indians INR 17.5 crore, finally pulled off a match-winning performance to get it going. The Australian big-hitter was promoted to number three after playing in the lower order against Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous game. Green top-scored with 64* off 40 after some early struggles for big shots. The right-arm pacer also dazzled with the ball as he dismissed Aiden Markram while conceding just 29 runs off his four-over spell. Fans will be hoping for similar all-round performances from Green in the upcoming games as Mumbai Indians are looking strong for the remainder of the IPL 2023 campaign.

Arjun Tendulkar picks his maiden IPL wicket

Arjun Tendulkar made his highly-anticipated debut against Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous game and now picked his maiden IPL wicket to kick-start his journey. The left-arm pacer opened the innings while bowling and impressed by conceding just 14 runs from his two-over spell in the powerplay. He was given a big responsibility to defend 20 runs in the last over, and he delivered with Bhuvneshwar Kumar's wicket on the fifth delivery.

Pace woes continue for Sunrisers Hyderabad

Umran Mailk, after a terrible spell against Kolkata Knight Riders, was dropped to the bench, with Washington Sundar returning to playing eleven. But Sunrisers Hyderabad's bowling issues continued as they conceded 190-plus total for the third time in opening five games this season. The star Indian pace trio of Umran, Bhuvneshwar, and T Natarajan have managed to pick just 13 wickets combined so far and have also proved costly.

Bhuvneshwar has been decent with economical spells, but both Natarajan and Umran definitely need to step up their game. Marco Jansen has been impressive with six wickets from three innings, but he also conceded 21 runs off his last over against Mumbai. Umran is expected to return to playing eleven in the next game and take Natarajan's place after the latter conceded 50-plus runs in two consecutive games.

Losing Captain, Aiden Markram said

All in all we were not at our best tonight. Credit to the boys for taking it deep. We could have done with conceding fewer runs towards the end. It (the surface) stayed pretty much the same throughout the night, on the slower side, not bad at all. Whenever we took pace off the ball did not come on to the bat. We made a call (to bowl first) before the toss and if the dew came in then we were in the game. There was a desperation to make things right from the previous season. Not too bummed, there are areas we can improve on and we will look to do that to give us a good chance to win the next game.

Winning captain, Rohit Sharma said

I have got lot of memories here (in Hyderabad). I played three years here. Won a trophy as well. Love coming back here. To settle them (youngsters) in is important for us. We had a couple of guys who hadn't played IPL before. We had to back them. They are coming into their own. I am enjoying what I am doing (with the bat). It is a different role. I am trying to set the tempo. Glad to get some scores in the powerplay. I understand one of us has to bat big. We have a long batting line-up. We want these guys to come out and bat freely. We watched Tilak last season. We all know what he can. I love his approach. He doesn't play the bowler, he plays the ball. We will see him play for a lot of teams. Life has come a full circle. Arjun has been a part of this team for three years. He understands what he wants to do. He is quite confident as well. He is clear in his plans. He is trying to swing the new ball and bowl yorkers at the death.

Player of the Match, Cameron Green said

I think first couple of games were a learning curve for me and our team. Bit of a sticky situation (when I walked out to bat). But glad the plans came off. I am a work in progress with my bowling at the death. Obviously, we can continue with the winning momentum.
