Sanju Samson is the Player of the Match
Sanju Samson is the Player of the Match for his 82*: "It's always great fun to spend time in the middle. This time I have been a different role, with a slightly different combination. Sanga has given me suggestions... I have been playing IPL for ten years, so there's experience coming in. Good start, but let's see how it goes. It's all about understanding your strengths and weakness. I just react to the ball. That helps me maintain the shape. I think I should give the trophy to Sandeep Sharma. I wouldn't have been standing here [but for him]... I thought of calling him, but then thought it would be a bit too much! Everyone chipped in well. We just had to stick to our plans."
Ravichandran Ashwin speaks
"It was a wicket of two halves. When we batted first, it stuck in the pitch. Sometimes it is tough... After the eight-over mark, we felt the wicket was a good one. In our view, we were ten short. It was a good pitch; it tends to get better here. I went for 12 off the first ball I bowled! I bowl in different stages of the game. The body is ageing. Requires different mindset. I came from a Test series. I went for 15 in the first over - that was inside the powerplay. The moment that phase of the game is done, I try to shell it away. The next three overs of mine went for 20, and I got a wicket. Most importantly, [it is about] preparing for every single batter in the opposition. The game is built by perception. Sandeep has been an unsung hero. He stepped up for Prasidh last year. He is a character; it's about the fight they have. A bowler for a fight is way more valuable than a bowler with a skill. There are two bouncers to be used, and that's the only fillip the bowlers have got in this competition. Boulty's very aggressive up front, and so is Nandre."
Losing skipper KL Rahul speaks
"I don't think the target was a lot; it was just ten over-par. We bowled well in patches. Not making too much out of it. Just made a few mistakes. Mohsin was our powerplay bowler in the first season, but he wasn't fully fit last season. Good to see him back. Naveen has been crucial for us since he has come in. Powerplay is crucial for every team, and I don't think any team has cracked it yet. We'll made from the small mistakes we made. When we are three [down] for nothing, and we give ourselves a chance of chasing 194 speaks of our line-up... We need to find ways to win games of cricket. We'll try to build from here, and see where we can get stronger. Langer's brought a lot of calmness to the group. I stole his line when I said we need to find ways to win games of cricket. We enjoy having him around. All of us have watched him coach Australia to a T20 World Cup and an Ashes victory. When you get runs, you always feel good. But it's important for us to end up on the winning side. That gives more satisfaction. Missing a season was really painful."

Naveen-ul-Haq - 2/41 (4)
-----------------------------

RR win by 20 runs
An excellent over under pressure by Avesh Khan brings victory for Rajasthan Royals, as Lucknow Supergiants fall short by 20 runs. What a win for the hosts to start with!
DOT BALLS ON THE TROT
Avesh Khan bowls two dot balls to begin with.
Starts with a wide
A wide outside off-stump delivery brings Pooran on strike. 25 more to get.
Can they do it?
Krunal Pandya is on strike for the last over. 27 to get off 6. Avesh Khan bowling, and he has got a job to do.
FOUR
The third ball goes for a boundary. Sandeep Sharma is bowling well, as the next two balls produce no run. Last ball, however, goes for a boundary. LSG need 27 off the last over.
Nail-biter coming up!
12 balls, 37 runs to get. This game can go anywhere. Sandeep Sharma to continue, Pooran on strike.
WICKET!
Ash Anna joins the party with his first wicket. He undoes Marcus Stoinis' stay at the crease. Sixth wicket down for Lucknow, as they need 40 off 15. Well, well, well. This game is going down to the wire.
Fifty for Pooran
Nicky P reaches the half-century-milestone off just 30 balls. He is keeping the chase lively. Both the teams are well and truly in the game. Exciting three overs coming up!
Wicket!!!
Sandeep Sharma strikes in his second over, as KL Rahul gets caught at mid-off. He departs for 58 off 45 deliveries, as LSG still need 49 off 23 balls. Clinical stuff from Sharma here. He is keeping that pressure alive in the Lucknow camp.
Clears long-off
A maximum for Nicholas Pooran off Yuzvendra Chahal. The field was set for that kind of shot, but that has gone well past the fielder, and only someone in the crowd could catch that one.
Excellent first over for Sandeep
Just five runs in the over to start with for Sandeep Sharma. He is delivering well under pressure with Rahul and Pooran at the crease.
Dekho, dekho wo aa gaya.!
Sandeep Sharma is finally into the attack. Let's see how this turns out. Exciting us already.!
Thoughts?
Sandeep Sharma hasn't bowled yet, indicating him potentially bowling out the 15th, 17th, and 19th overs. He is good at the death and brings along a plethora of variations to block the flow of runs. Let's see what skipper Samson wants the pacer to do.
We're also looking for him!π

Klassy Knock.!
Skipper KL Rahul completes his half-century off just 35 balls. That's his 34th fifty in the tournament, and he is delighted, but knows that his job isn't done yet. He'll be motivated to get the team over the line.
A 35 ball fifty by KL Rahul.

Captain KL starts on a high with a classic half century. The job is not done yet for LSG. pic.twitter.com/f9atJI7Mnj
Mighty, mighty Pooran
Nicholas Pooran showing Boult levels with yet another six off a full toss. The final ball of the 13th brings a couple of runs, as the over ends with 20 runs for Lucknow. They're not backing off just as yet.

Nicky P joins the act
Nicholas Pooran uses his power to send the ball over deep point region for a huge six. The next ball goes for a boundary through the covers. The fifty partnership comes up as well. This game is on!
Inventive from KL
Rahul shuffles too far across the stumps to find the gap behind the wickets. The ball goes for a boundary, as Ashwin's poor outing thus far continues.
Clubbed from KL
Short ball from Burger, and that's pulled away by KL Rahul for a gigantic six. The next ball has been sent away for a four straight down the ground. He is looking to force the momentum his way. And just as we type this, the next ball that follows has been sent for a boundary too. This time over the keeper's head. This chase is going to be an interesting one.
The 11th over brings 17 runs for LSG, as they need 101 more to win now.
Half the innings done
After ten overs, LSG have managed 76 runs, but there's a bigger task that awaits them in the second half of this chase. They do need 118, but the Pooran-Rahul duo does pack a punch to get it done.
Pooran announces himself
Chahal nearly deceives Pooran, but the latter's power takes it over the long-off for a six. The fielder did manage to get fingertips on that one, but despite a great effort, LSG get half a dozen.

End of the ninth
Five runs off the Avesh Khan over. Lucknow are 66/4.
Nicky P is in!
After eight overs, the score is 61/4. Nicholas Pooran, the ravishing Caribbean, has joined his skipper in the middle. They still need 133 more runs to win.
Gone.!
Hooda's stay has been put to end by Yuzvendra Chahal. Nicely tossed up, and Hooda went for the big swing, only to find the fielder at deep mid-wicket. Four down for 60 now, LSG.
Yuzi Chahal into the attack now
The leg spin maestro Yuzvendra Chahal is into the attack for the eighth over. He replaces Ashwin, who bowled just an over.
Seven overs done
LSG are 57/3, as the first over after powerplay concludes. Time for strategic timeout.
Where did that come from, Hooda?
Smacked over the mid-wicket region for a maximum. Hooda seems to be in a different league altogether. The fifty comes up for LSG.
End of the powerplay
LSG manage 47 runs in six over, but lost three crucial wickets in the process. Overall, an average start for the visiting side.

KLASS apart
Elegantly swept for a six by KL Rahul. Not the best of the starts for Ashwin.
Anna in attack
Ravichandran Ashwin is in to bowl his first for the game, as was evident from his chat with Samson before the chase began.
Too early to enter that list!
Most wickets for Rajasthan Royals in Powerplay
29 - Shane Watson
23 - Trent Boult
17 - Jofra Archer
15 - Dhawal Kulkarni
13 - James Faulkner
13 - Amit Singh
FOUR
Klassy shot from Rahul has gone for a boundary, as there's no fielder in the mid-off region.
Rahul gets hit on the helmet
The physio is out in the middle to check if the batter is fine. No problems, thankfully.
Fifth over begins
The first ball of the over goes for a boundary. Deepak Hooda is off to a flyer.
Using the pace!
Deepak Hooda opens the face of his bat, as the ball sails over the third man region for a six. The next ball catches an edge of the bat, but enough to get it over Sanju Samson's head for yet another boundary.
IMPACT SUB - Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda replaces Yash Thakur as the Impact Player. The batter will look to provide some runs for the side.
OUT! Burger strikes
Ayush Badoni departs, as Jos Buttler has been handed a simple catch on the edge of the 30-yard circle.
Nandre Burger strikes with his first, as the third man is down for Lucknow.
End of an eventful over for Boult
After three overs, LSG are 11/2, as Boult is wreaking havoc in the middle. Just a run off his second.
Bang on!!
Boult gets the better of Padikkal, as the middle stump has been stuttered. Padikkal departs for a duck, and Boult gets yet another wicket in the powerplay. Early trouble for the Lucknow.
Oooh, that's nasty..!!!
The first ball of the third over hits the helmet of Devdutt Padikkal, proving to be a nasty blow on his head. As per general concussion procedures, the physio has walked out to do some routine checks. The helmet is being replaced with a newer one.
Six off the second
Burger concedes six runs in his first over. 10/1 after two.
Nandre Burger is here
The Protea pacer Nandre Burger is in on his IPL debut. The left-arm seamer might be a possible threat to the opposition with his natural bounce and ability to swing it both ways. Rahul will have to be watchful before going against him. Close contest this!
Boultπ€Wicket in the first over
Quinton de Kock falls prey to the setup by Trent Boult. He gets caught at deep fine leg and that's an early blow for Lucknow. Boult, who has a knack of picking early wickets, has done justice to his role in the side.
He will now be bowling to Devdutt Padikkal. So two Karnataka boys are at the crease now.
QdK and KLR open for LSG
De Kock has taken the strike for the first ball, as Rahul is at the non-striker's end. Boult is having the ball in hand.
Just the second ball of the chase, and QdK manages to smash it straight down the ground for a beautiful boundary. He and LSG are off the mark.
Chase coming up!!!
The second innings is about to begin, as Lucknow Supergiants' openers make their way out to the centre, followed by RR huddle. Samson was seen having a chat with Ravichandran Ashwin, hinting at his potential overs in the powerplay. Trent Boult will be seen with the ball for the first over, though, as the Kiwi pacer is marking his run-up.
Meanwhile, Nandre Burger has been added as an Impact Substitute, who replaces Shimron Hetmyer. That makes it four overseas players for the Sanju Samson-led side.

Fantastic over from Naveen!
Naveen-ul-Haq conceded just eight runs in his final over. A dropped catch in the final delivery made him furious but he should be happy with his performance. RR are 179/4 after 19 overs.

End of the 18th over
13 runs off the over as RR are 171/4 after 18 overs. Sanju Samson in some form!
EXCELLENT EFFORT FROM NAVEEN!
Naveen-ul-Haq stretched and jumped near the boundary ropes to save a six but in the end it was too tough for the Afghanistan pacer. An excellent effort nonetheless. RR are 158/4 after 17 overs.
THAT'S GONE!
KL Rahul was sure of Shimron Hetmyer nicking it but the batter ruled it out and immediately asked for a review. However, DRS showed that the West Indies international nicked it as he walked back after scoring five runs off seven deliveries. Ravi Bishnoi gives the breakthrough as RR are 150/4
End of 14 overs
A boundary off the last ball takes the scoreboard to 128/2 after 14 overs. Yash Thakur is not able to contain runs for his side.
Fifty for SS
Sanju Samson is playing a captain's knock here. After early struggles, he covered well to reach his fifty in just 33 balls. He'll be hoping to double it up.

Dropped
The ball went high in the air, as Mohsin Khan called for the ball. At the end, didn't even get fingertips to it. Ravi Bishnoi is denied a wicket, as batter gets a life.
Boundary
Sanju Samson picks the gap on the second ball of the 13th over to grab another four runs to his name.
12 overs done
112 runs after the 12th over for the hosts. Two wickets lost in the process, but the 61-run* partnership is starting to take the game away from Lucknow.
And again!
Riyan Parag is smashing Bishnoi for fun. Another six in the same region, and this one seemed even bigger. The replay says it travelled 87 metres.
Huge hit by Parag
Riyan Parag hits it with the spin to send the ball into the stands. Picked the ball well, and smashed it over.
End of 10 overs
The first half of the innings brings 89 runs for Rajasthan Royals. The hosts are on the road to recovery after a couple of early blows in the powerplay.
Double Delight for Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson takes Yash Thakur to the cleaners, with sixes of consecutive deliveries on the leg side. Big over for RR, as they hit three sixes while aggregating 21 off that one. 84/2.
SIX for Parag
Riyan Parag hits a huge six over long on to break the shackles for himself and his team.
Yash Thakur to bowl his first
The ace pacer from Vidarbha will be bowling for the first time in this game. He'll be hoping to make it count.

Wide ball, reviewed
The wide ball has been reviewed. The TV replay suggests that the ball brushed the pads before going to the keeper, and the decision has been reversed.
After 7 overs, the score is 59/2.
Spin from both ends
Ravi Bishnoi, the no.1 T20I bowler, has replaced Mohsin Khan, as KL Rahul attempts to cache in the momentum.
The Powerplay ends
The first six overs have brought 54 runs for the Royals, and 2 wickets for Lucknow. Good run-rate, but those wickets might hurt the hosts a lot.
Mohsin has the last laugh!!
Jaiswal gets the ball pretty high on the bat. Probably didn't anticipate it to come that quick at him, and the fielder inside the 30-yard circle takes a pretty simple catch. Jaiswal (24 off 12) departs after a brief stay at the crease.
The new no.4 batter Riyan Parag is in for some striking, as Krunal Pandya is in action for the first time with the ball in this game. First ball of Pandya's over brings up the fifty.
Jaiswal has gone for it
Yashasvi Jaiswal scoops the ball for a six, and Mohsin, who bowled two good over before this is getting some treatment in his third.
Big enough!!!
Sanju Samson effortlessly hits a six off a pull shot. A real loosener from Mohsin brings six easy runs for RR.
Sanju Samson gets going!
A simple push through the point brings the first boundary for Samson.
End of four
After four overs, Rajasthan are 32/1. Jaiswal is hitting boundaries with a good mindset, but he'll need his partner to step and maximize the field restrictions.
SS is in for RR
Royals' skipper Sanju Samson has replaced Buttler at the crease.
Ferocious
A powerful hit by Jaiswal gets him his first boundary in the game. He doubles it up with another boundary towards the point region. Good batting from the left-hander. He is playing according to the field.

There's the first blood!
Jos Buttler departs, as Naveen-ul-Haq strikes with the first. KL Rahul takes a fine catch behind the stumps, and the home team is in some problem after two over. 13 for 1.
First boundary
Jos Buttler breaks the shackles with a boundary towards deep point region. The shot was certainly miscued, but the intent to loft it up was clear.
End of first over
Mohsin Khan begins well for Lucknow, conceding only three runs. Naveen-ul-Haq will bowl next.
Oops, oops.!
There was a short interruption for the third ball of the first over, as the cable carrying spider cameras had fallen off. Maybe a collision with a pointed object caused that to happen. This is the first time we've seen something like this happen on a cricket field. Such unique things make the IPL interesting to watch, but the fans are unaware of what exactly happened.

Mohsin Khan to start
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Indian star has taken the strike, while Jos Buttler has joined him from the other end. Left-arm seamer Mohsin Khan will begin the proceedings for Lucknow.
Live action coming up!!!
The umpires make their way to the centre, as Rajasthan openers follow. LSG huddle is being led by Rahul with a pep talk ahead of their season opener. Let's Go.!

Here's what KL Rahul said after the toss:
"We would have batted first as well, but the wicket does look good. I'm happy to be back on the field, injury has become my best friend over the last couple of years, but it makes you hungry and perform much better when you're back. QdK, Pooran, Stoinis and Naveen-ul-Haq are our four overseas options. The focus is on this game for us at the moment," KL Rahul said at the toss.
Here's what Sanju Samson said after the toss:
"We would like to bat first today. Looks like a good batting wicket, we were ok to do both, but we've a different combination today. Coming back to Jaipur gives positive vibes in the dressing room. Riyan Parag will be our number 4, Jos, Hetty, Boult are there - Powell could come in as an impact player," Sanju Samson said at the toss.

It's toss time!
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and have opted to bat first.
Pitch Report:
We have a 62m and a 70m square boundary, the straight boundary is at 79m. The pitch looks brown and doesn't have a lot of grass on it. The cracks are moving which suggests that it's very dry. Spinners will play a big role, it's important to get off to a good start in the first six overs, feel Samuel Badree and Matthew Hayden, in their pitch report.
Good Afternoon Jaipur!
Another double header day is ready to treat cricket enthusiasts. Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants are set to collide in the afternoon game. The second encounter will see Hardik Pandya lead Mumbai Indians for the first time against Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans. All geared up, folks? We are ready to bring you all the latest updates from both games. Let the Super Sunday begin!
Hosts Rajasthan Royals (RR), the inaugural winners, are all set to lock horns against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 4 of the ongoing 17th Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) edition. The high-octane clash is slated to be contested on Sunday, March 24, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, in Jaipur.
RR, led by Sanju Samson, failed to make it to the playoffs in the previous edition as they finished fifth on the points chart, behind Mumbai Indians. Despite winning the title in the inaugural edition, RR are yet to make a bid for the second title. They reached the final for the second time in 2022 but unfortunately suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the final against Gujarat Titans. Meanwhile, LSG who made their IPL debut alongside the Titans had qualified for the playoffs in two consecutive seasons finishing third on the table.
Notably, both sides had dealt with major blows before the commencement of the tournament as they looked to fill a few positions ahead of their opening game. RR will not receive the services of Prasidh Krishna due to injury before Aussie star Adam Zampa withdrew from the competition. Meanwhile, for LSG, captain KL Rahul has been instructed to bat only as a specialist batter by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as he recuperated from a quadricep tendon injury quite recently.
Devdutt Padikkal, who was traded from RR is likely to make his debut for LSG in the forthcoming game. The Kerala-born batter could be the potential contender to open the innings as Rahul opted to bat in the middle taking inspiration from his performances during the ODI World Cup in 2023. Meanwhile, West Indies star Rovman Powell is expected to be slotted as a finisher for RR, adding to the middle-order strength with the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel. In addition, seamer Avesh Khan, who was traded from LSG, is also likely to make his debut for the Rajasthan-based franchise.
Both sides have clashed together in three games with the Royals having won two matches while the Super Giants emerged victorious on one occasion. With both sides having several big names in their teams, the forthcoming encounter can turn out to be a riveting encounter.
