Yashasvi Jaiswal keeps injuring support staff claims Samson

The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is right around the corner and promises fireworks both on and off the field. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson took a humorous dig at his teammate and attacking opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Sanju claimed that the young batting sensation sent the team's support staff to the hospital with dislocated shoulders, courtesy of his restless batting sessions in the nets.

Jaiswal had a stellar IPL 2023 campaign for RR, smashing over 600 runs. His performances earned him an India call-up, where he continued his purple patch in Tests. In the recently concluded Test series, the left-hander was awarded the Player of the Series and is currently in red-hot form.

Speaking to Star Sports, Samson cheekily revealed how Jaiswal has been torturing the team's throwdown specialists in practice.

“We have four Sardar ji’s in our practice camp. One is called Cut, Pull, Flick, and Drive. The guy called 'Cut' only balls and cut balls to practice, the guy called 'Pull' only bowls pull to practice. So same for the other guys. They dislocated their shoulders because of Jaiswal last season. They were in the hospital and they made a comeback. I think instead of players, the staff gets injured because of Jaiswal,” Samson said.

No need to wait ten balls to hit a six, says Sanju

While lauding the batter's insane work ethic, skipper Samson also spoke about his development as a power-hitter and hopes of being part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 plans.

“I always wanted to stand out with the way I batted and create my style. No matter if it’s the first ball, I wanted to go out there and hit a six. That was the shift in the mindset. I wanted to do something different. Why do we have to wait for ten balls to hit a six? That was the motive behind developing my power-hitting,” the RR skipper stated.

As Rajasthan Royals prepare to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Jaipur, all eyes are on how Jaiswal will follow up his breakthrough season. The Rajasthan-based franchise was the finalist of the 2022 season, and the hasn't lifted the trophy since the inaugural season in 2008. This year, the team would be looking to change its fortunes in the upcoming season.
