Mumbai Indians beat Lucknow Super Giants by six wickets at Wankhede.
3 Min Read

Mumbai Indians (MI) pulled off a remarkable chase to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
Put into bat first, LSG posted a massive 228/5, powered by explosive knocks from Nicholas Pooran (63 off 21) and Mitchell Marsh (44 off 25). The duo dominated the powerplay and middle overs, while Aiden Markram (31*) and Himmat Singh (40*) added valuable runs towards the end. MI bowlers struggled for control, though Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets and Raghu Sharma claimed his maiden IPL scalp.
In reply, MI came out with intent. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma put on a stunning 143-run opening stand that took the game away from LSG. Rickelton smashed 83 off 32 balls, while Rohit anchored the chase with a fluent 84 off 44.
Despite a few quick wickets in the middle overs, MI remained in control, with Naman Dhir and Will Jacks finishing the job comfortably in 18.4 overs.
Talking points
1) Rickelton, Rohit break LSG’s back
The 143-run opening stand between Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma proved to be the defining moment of the game. Chasing 229, MI needed a strong start, and the duo delivered emphatically. Their aggressive approach in the powerplay and ability to maintain momentum left LSG with little room to recover.
2) Pooran blitz in vain
Nicholas Pooran lit up the innings with a breathtaking 63 off just 21 balls, smashing eight sixes. He, along with Mitchell Marsh, powered LSG to a daunting total. However, the lack of breakthroughs in the early stages of MI’s chase meant his effort ultimately went in vain.
3) MI’s fearless approach in big chase
Chasing over 220 is never easy, but MI showed remarkable intent and composure. Even after losing wickets in the middle overs, they never allowed the required rate to climb. The finishing touches by Naman Dhir and Will Jacks highlighted MI’s batting depth and confidence under pressure.
Who said what?
Rishabh Pant, Lucknow Super Giants captain
"Definitely, the way we started, I think we should have gotten more runs. But definitely some good signs. Can't say that. Definitely the boys played freely, but in the end, I think they bowled well because they are used to these conditions, for sure. See, definitely, we were short 10-15 runs because it was a 220-230 wicket for sure. And the way we started, we had that edge over them. But at the same time, in a wicket like this, you can't blame bowlers all the time. They've been doing a fantastic job for us. So definitely can't say much to them, for sure. (what does the team need?) I think we need some good luck, man. That's the only thing I'm going to say. (how to find the luck?) Yeah, I think a lot of blessing is going to work around it. And it's going to take some more effort from us, for sure."
Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians captain
"It was nothing new. We knew we could control the game with a couple of wickets. They were 120-odd for one. Everyone had their beliefs and had their plans. The way they bowled was commendable. Even we scored 244 few days back and SRH chased it down. So we knew it was chaseable. It was unbelievable batting. It's important to have a good start. They were always in control. At the way, Naman and everyone batted was nice."
Ryan Rickelton, Player of the Match
"(On the partnership with Rohit) One of Mumbai's greatest, one of India's greatest, I have enjoyed batting with him. My game suits this ground. Really enjoyed, the ball really flies here. Always looking to get better. The power we have is through the roof. With the class we have, it make my role clearer."
