Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh's match-winning performance in the Super 12 encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against arch-rivals Pakistan at the MCG on Sunday, October 23. He finished with figures of 3/32 from his four overs.

It is to be noted that despite being a good death overs specialist in the Asia Cup, Arshdeep was mercilessly abused by social media trolls after he dropped a simple catch of Asif Ali in the Super 4 encounter against the Men in Green last month, when the Indian team lost by five wickets.

Arshdeep bowled remarkably well: Wasim Jaffer

"It was redemption for him (Arshdeep Singh) in one way. Arriving at such a big stage and first dismissing Babar (Azam), and (Mohammad) Rizwan. Those were two big wickets. We had earlier discussed that these two are the most important wickets. And if India had to defeat Pakistan, these to had to be sent back early which would have put additional pressure on the Pakistani middle order", said Jaffer while speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker'.

"Arshdeep bowled remarkably well. The way he swung the ball and took wickets I feel really happy. The way he was criticized after that drop catch in the Asia Cup, I feel he made a very strong comeback", he added.

Arshdeep set the momentum for India right from the beginning when he made things miserable for the Pakistan on a typical bouncy track at the MCG. He along with senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled outstandingly well in the Powerplay as the opposition found it tough to score.

Arshdeep first trapped Babar Azam lbw for a duck and then set up a struggling Mohammad Rizwan with a well-directed bouncer as Bhuvneshwar Kumar made no mistake in completing an easy catch. His third wicket happened to be power-hitter Asif Ali, playing an important role in restrcting Pakistan to 160.
