The Women’s Premier League's inaugural edition is being followed worldwide as several women cricketers have lit up the competition with their scintillating performances. India's premier women’s T20 competition has also garnered praise from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who has been impressed by the fielding in the tournament.

Women’s Premier League is being played across three venues in Maharashtra and is being enjoyed by fans of all age groups. Sharing his thoughts on the tournament, Tendulkar congratulated BCCI for the great initiative and asked fans to support women cricketers as they’re doing an excellent job.

“Fantastic; first of all, a big-big congratulations to BCCI because this is a great initiative. As I said, the first innings were played well by BCCI, and now second innings, we have to support women cricketers. I think they’re doing a magnificent job,” Tendulkar said at the India Today Conclave 2023.

The 49-year-old further said that the tournament is just the beginning of something huge for India and world cricket.

“I’m really, really impressed by the fielding standards, their athleticism; it has just blown my mind; it’s incredible. It’s fast, exciting, and good cricket should always be encouraged. They’re fiercely competitive; it’s just the beginning. I really want to congratulate all the teams and women cricketers who’ve turned up here. This is the beginning of something big, not just for India but cricket,” the legendary cricketer added.

Tendulkar wants one extra fielder outside the ring in WPL

The batting maestro shared his thoughts on the rule of an extra fielder inside the 30-yard-circle in the WPL and said that he would’ve had five fielders outside the ring instead of four after the powerplay to bring a fair balance between bat and ball.

“Again, one fielder is extra inside the ring; they play with five fielders inside the ring. I would’ve four fielders inside the ring, so the a fair balance between the bat and the ball because, anyways, in this format, batters are looking to score runs, looking play big shots. That extra fielder outside the ring is only fair to a bowler,” he said.
