With the T20 World Cup 2024 looming around the corner, the various participating sides will aim to put in their best performances to get their hands on the coveted title. One of the biggest favourites for the title would be the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team.
Ahead of the tournament, former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif came forward to opine that India skipper Rohit Sharma would be extra motivated to win the T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place from June 2 to 29.
Kaif opined that the World Cup would be Rohit Sharma’s final chance to win the marquee tournament. He also opined that the skipper will aim to make amends for the loss in the ODI World Cup final in 2023.
“Rohit Sharma knows that he won’t be playing for long, maybe for the next 2 to 3 years. Virat Kohli is also on the same path. It’s a big opportunity for Rohit as a captain,” Kaif told Star Sports.
“He lost ODI World Cup final after the match was in India’s hands. He was broken, fans were heartbroken. Despite winning 10 matches, India lost 1 match. I hope the situation isn’t the same in the T20 World Cup,” he added.
They do not have competition in the league stage: Kaif
Furthermore, Mohammad Kaif talked about how Team India will find it relatively easy in the group stage of the tournament before they go on to face the tougher sides in the semi-finals and the final. The former cricketer also opined that competing in the T20 World Cup will be completely different from playing in the IPL.
“They do not have competition in the league stage. There are only two main matches, the semi-final and the final and you lose only big matches. It’s not the IPL where you will get 14 chances to make a comeback; it’s only about a couple of big days and whether you are ready for the days as well,” Kaif said.
