Star batter David Warner had a rough time in the recently concluded IPL 2024. The southpaw struggled with the bat and was later dropped with an injury on his left thumb. In his absence, Jake Fraser-McGurk played brilliant cricket and smashed 330 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 234.04. The youngster was expected to make the cut into Australia’s T20 World Cup squad as the frontline opener, but the team management kept their trust in Warner.

Speaking on the widespread chatter regarding his selection, the opener mentioned that it is baffling that the conversations are always based on his form. He added that these discussions don’t fuel him, as his goal is to go out in the middle and score runs for Australia.

“It doesn’t fuel me. It’s in one ear and out the other. I don’t understand why it’s always about myself. There are 11 players in the team. I don’t understand it. I don’t get it. I just go out there and score runs,” Warner was saying as quoted by Fox Sports.

“People think they have to keep criticising the way that I play. I don’t know what it is. Honestly, I have no answers as to why people are like that. I’ve had it my whole career. I don’t look at it. I don’t listen to it and when you’re all the way around the world, you don’t need to see it. As long as I’m contributing to the team and I’m putting us in the best position possible, I’ll just keep trying my best,” the Australia international added.

Notably, in Australia’s opening match of the T20 World Cup campaign, Warner made 56 runs off 51 deliveries as the Mitchell Marsh-led side defeated Oman by 39 runs. The southpaw mentioned that he is quite familiar with the conditions as he played Caribbean Premier League here (in the Caribbean) and understands how the surface will behave.
