Kyle Jamieson out for a year after facing another stress fracture

New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson could miss cricket for a year after being diagnosed with another stress fracture on his back. In the first Test against South Africa at Bay Oval, the 29-year-old felt some discomfort but that didn’t stop him from picking six wickets in the match. However, he was ruled out of the second Test in Hamilton, with subsequent scans revealing the details of his injuries.

Jamieson underwent back surgery last year and unfortunately, his latest injury is at the same part. Surgery is not required this time around but he will be out of action for a long time. Speaking about the same, the pacer mentioned that the last few days have been extremely challenging for him and he hopes for a strong return after overcoming the hurdle.

“The last few days have been some of my most challenging but I am hugely grateful for the support I've received from my partner, family, team-mates, support staff and medical professionals. I know injuries are part of life as a cricketer and at my age, I am hopeful I still have many more playing days ahead of me,” Jamieson said in a statement.

"I've got a bit of a roadmap as to how to manage it. I know some of the hurdles I'll have to overcome, probably more mentally and emotionally, the physical side is the easy part. You just rest and build back up. It's almost autopilot in a way,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed that the team management will be behind Jamieson in his recovery process. He mentioned that the cricketer has put hard yards in international cricket and the injury news is a tough pill to swallow.

“We've all seen how much work Kyle has put into returning to international cricket and for him to have a setback like this is tough news to get. On the positive side, we know how determined he is to keep playing cricket for New Zealand and we will be fully behind him on the rehabilitation road ahead. His resolve is undiminished,” Stead said.
