Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya made a shocking statement as he blamed Australian women cricketers for a molestation incident that took place in Indore last week. The Urban Development and Housing Minister said the players had exited the hotel without informing anyone, stating their decision to step out was partly responsible for the unfortunate event.
"See, a lapse has definitely happened. But the Australian women cricketers left from the hotel without informing anyone, not even their head coach. This was their fault. They had the security staff there - both personal and policemen. But the cricketers just went out of the team hotel while gossiping, and that's why this incident happened," Kailash Vijayvargiya told NDTV.
The comments were made following two Australian players being allegedly touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist in Indore while walking to a cafe on Thursday morning, the day after their win against England in the ongoing Women’s World Cup. Cricket Australia confirmed the incident and said it had been reported to the police, who arrested the accused within six hours.
Other cricketers will also learn a lesson: Kailash Vijayvargiya
Rajesh Dandotiya, Additional DCP (Indore Crime Branch), said the culprit, Aqeel, had a criminal record and was apprehended following an intensive operation. The BCCI, through secretary Devajit Saikia, condemned the incident and said it would reflect on its safety protocols if necessary.
The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) also issued a statement expressing deep regret and issuing an apology to the Australian team. However, Vijayvargiya revealed that the episode should be seen as a lesson for both authorities and players.
"The incident is unfortunate. And other cricketers will also learn a lesson that when they are in another city or another country, they must themselves be concerned about their own security and well-being," he added.

Meanwhile, Australia, which topped the Women’s World Cup league table, continued with its matches despite the disturbing incident. They are set to face India in the semi-final on October 30 in Navi Mumbai, while South Africa will play England in the other semi-final in Guwahati.
