Former Indian cricketer Farokh Engineer felt that England quick Mark Wood is an intelligent bowler and can offer a lot more than just pace. Wood has clocked the fastest ball of the T20 World Cup 2022 so far with a 155 Kmph delivery against New Zealand and he has been bowling at some serious pace. The right-arm speedster had been prone to injuries in the past and did miss a lot of international action.

However, he holds an important place in the England bowling line-up in the absence of Jofra Archer who can also generate raw pace once he returns. Farokh hailed the English bowlers for holding onto their professionalism in terms of bowling against any opponents.

England have that edge over Sri Lanka: Farokh Engineer

Farokh mentioned that Wood might not consider reducing his pace and will stick to bowling quicker and quicker.

“Wood won’t change his approach; he will keep on bowling quicker and as quick as he can. He will use the bouncer effectively; he is a very intelligent bowler. The thing is that all English players play professional cricket, so they are more professional than the Sri Lankans,” Farokh Engineer told in the BatBricks7 Run Ki RunNeeti pre-match show on CricTracker.

Farokh further highlighted the importance of Sam Curran in the setup as the left-arm seamer has managed to pick up a lot of wickets with his variations in the tournament.

“Sam Curran got wickets against Afghanistan because he is a clever bowler. He is not the greatest bowler in the world nor the quickest. But he bowls very intelligently, he varies his pace and bowls the yorker at the right time,” he added.
