Mumbai Indians (MI) went all in for Ishan Kishan and Jofra Archer last season, with an aim to build a team for the future. They repeated similar heroics this time around as they spent a whopping Rs. 17.50 crore to rope in Australian all-rounder Cameron Green. After a bidding war with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals, MI finally got their hands on the big player.

Green also became the second-most expensive player in the history of the IPL. He registered himself at a base price of Rs. 2 crore, but went on to shatter records. Other than Green, MI roped in Jhye Richardson at a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Towards the later stages, they added Piyush Chawla, Duan Jansen, Shams Mulani, Nehal Vadhera, and Vishnu Vinod at their base prices to their squad.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have always spent money wisely, during IPL Auctions. Coming into the IPL 2023 auctions, they had Rs. 20.55 crores left in their purse, with nine slots to fill up including three overseas players. They did not have a memorable outing last season and finished their campaign at the bottom of the points table.

But things are going to change this time around as Mumbai Indians did really well at the IPL 2023 auctions that took place on Friday, December 23, in Kochi. They already had big names like Jasprit Bumrah, Kishan, Suryakumar, and Archer, among others, on their side. And Cameron Green’s inclusion to the list made their squad stronger. The upcoming 16^th edition of the cash-rich event will surely turn out to be a big one for Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians aim for a record sixth title

Mumbai Indians have won five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 titles over the years. Rohit Sharma has been brilliant as the captain of the side. At the mega-auction last year, Ishan Kishan stood out as MI gave everything they had to get him back into their side. He then became the most expensive player of IPL 2022 as he bagged a whopping Rs. 15.25 crores.

There were a lot of talking points for Mumbai Indians last season. Among so many negatives, they found young and talented players in the form of Tilak Varma, Dewald Brevis, Hrithik Shokeen, and Tristan Stubbs. And things have changed since the previous edition, as both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are in great touch and have been setting new records every time they walk out to bat.

The two in-form players will be the ones to look out for alongside Jofra Archer and Cameron Green, who will be making their debut with MI at the upcoming edition. Aussie pacer Riley Meredith has replaced his compatriot Jhye Richardson. Chris Jordan joins Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Jofra Archer for the remainder of the season.
