Suryakumar Yadav, who was also bestowed with the additional responsibility of leading Mumbai Indians in Rohit Sharma's absence, finally seemed to have found his lost form as his brief cameo helped Mumbai Indians register their second successive win in Indian Premier League 2023. Playing against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd match of the tournament, Suryakumar registered an audacious knock of 43 runs, notched up in just 25 balls, to help his team go past the visitors.
Suryakumar's blissful knock comprised four fours and three maximums as he erected his innings at an impressive strike rate of 172. He also helped Mumbai stabilise the innings by putting up a 60-run stand for the third wicket with Tilak Verma, followed by a brief 29-run stand with Tim David, amassed over just 16 deliveries.
Suryakumar's fine innings was finally brought to an end by Shardul Thakur who got him caught by Rahmnaullah Gurbaz to claim his solitary success in the match. Suryakumar rightly built on Ishan Kishan's exploits right up the order to help Mumbai successfully chase down the target of 186/5, thus registering MI's second win on the trot.
Impact Player Suyash Sharma returns impressive figures for KKR
IPL's latest find Suyash Sharma continued his impressive stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, living up to the expectations against Mumbai Indians as well. He not only claimed the most wickets (2) for the team but also came out to be the most economical bowler for the visitors. In the four overs he bowled, Suyash gave away just 27 runs to register an economy rate of 6.75.
Suyash also helped KKR get rid of Rohit Sharma up the order, before sending the young Tilak Verma packing on an individual score of 30. While Rohit succumbed to an impressive catch by Umesh Yadav, Tilak's stumps were rattled by Suyash to give KKR their third breakthrough.
Apart from Suyash, Shardul Thakur, Varun Chakaravarthy and Lockie Ferguson claimed one wicket each. KKR will next face Delhi Capitals on April 20 whereas MI will travel to Hyderabad to lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
