Indian pacers were on song during the ODI World Cup 2023, which made former cricketer Hasan Raza question the integrity of the umpires and the players. The 41-year-old claimed that the umpires were giving Indian bowlers a different ball and accused the hosts of manipulating the DRS as well. Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram criticized Raza’s bizarre comments and recently, star India pacer Mohammed Shami also condemned his act.
Shami, who finished as the leading wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023, slammed Raza saying that he never enjoys India’s success and tries to find faults. Shami added that the former cricketer is also jealous and that’s the reason he feels that Pakistan is being cheated in the global tournament.
“Actually they have made cricket a joke because we don't enjoy each other's success. You become too happy when you are being praised, but when you lose, you feel that you have been cheated. You look at the records of the time we have been part of the team, you won't even find them close. Jalan toh puri dikhti hai wo. Itna jalane se kon se results mil jaane hain (jealousy is evident. You can never get good results with this amount of jealousy),” Shami told News18.
Previously, former cricketer Aakash Chopra too criticized Raza’s claims as he labelled it as ‘comedy’. Akram meanwhile opined that Raza was bringing shame to the country with such statements and asked him to stop it.
Shami is yet to regain full fitness
Shami injured his ankle during the ODI World Cup but managed to continue playing. After the completion of the tournament, he took a break and is yet to make his return to the squad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently dealing with his injury as multiple reports claimed that the cricketer might travel to Europe for further treatment.
However, BCCI officials haven’t shared many details about the same. He is currently in India and is likely to miss the entirety of the Test series against England. There is a chance of him making his return during IPL but nothing is certain at this moment.
