The Indian Premier League 2023 has been an exhilarating affair so far as all ten franchises have put on a magnificent exhibition of cricket in the first month of the tournament. IPL 2022 runner-ups, Rajasthan Royals, are once again having a good season so far as they’ve won five out of nine matches played.
With Rajasthan having their playing combination sorted right from the beginning several players have been warming the bench in the ongoing season so far. The biggest name from the RR camp that is yet to get a game is Joe Root. The star batter was bought for INR 1 crore at the mini-auction held in December 2022 but is yet to make his IPL debut.
Recently, Root featured in a fun ‘This or That’ game with his teammates Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel where they were asked the Englishman to choose between playing under MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli. Root found it difficult to choose between the two and looked confused as he didn’t choose any side and stayed in the middle.
Notably, Root has played 32 T20Is scoring 893 runs at an average of 35.72 with five fifties to his name. However, the star batter had not been able to impress the bidders in IPL over the years until the mini-auction in 2022.
Rajasthan Royals to face Gujarat Titans in next fixture
Meanwhile, after winning four out of the first five matches at the start of the season, the Sanju Samson-led side went a bit astray and have lost three out of their last four matches. In the previous fixture against Mumbai Indians, after opting to bat first, RR posted a massive 212/7 riding on a scintillating hundred by Yashasvi Jaiswal (124 off 62).
In reply, Mumbai ended up completing a thrilling chase winning the match by six wickets with three balls to spare. Despite RR’s loss, the 21-year-old Jaiswal was awarded Player of the Match for his incredible knock. Rajasthan will next face Gujarat Titans on Friday, May 05 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
