Stuart Broad’s sudden decision to retire from all forms of cricket surprised his long-time mate James Anderson but the latter has shown his support since then. Notably, on Day 4 of the fifth Test, the duo walked out to bat for once last time as the crowd and the Australian team gave them a warm reception. Recalling that, Anderson stated that it was special and that he feels lucky to be a part of the journey.
The duo has picked up a total of 1037 wickets in Test cricket playing together and will be hoping to add some more to their tally as England fight to finish Ashes 2023 on level terms. Anderson opened up on his relationship with Borad and mentioned that neither of them could have achieved what they did without having each other’s back.
“I was a little bit shocked when he told me but I’ve to respect his (Stuart Broad) decision. He was very clear on what he wants to do. Yesterday morning was really special, going to walk out with him on the field watching his last ball in Test match cricket for six. I thought the crowd was amazing, the ovation he got was incredible and I felt really lucky to be out there and experience it," Anderson said while talking to Sky Sports.
“If we put one photo in our house of our careers, that will probably be that one. We loved playing together. Neither of us could’ve achieved what we have without the other. Yeah, it’s been incredibly special and I’ll definitely miss him,” he added,
