In a recent development, New Zealand have brought in uncapped fast bowler Ben Sears to bolster the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Bangladesh. This decision is a precautionary measure to cover for Kyle Jamieson, who is dealing with a stiff left hamstring.

Gary Stead, the head coach of the New Zealand team, emphasized the need to take a cautious approach with Jamieson. He said that they don't want to rush or push him, particularly at the very start of our home summer. While Jamieson could potentially play if necessary, the team are opting for prudence to avoid unnecessary risks.

"We're taking a cautious approach with Kyle. We don't want to rush or push him back, particularly at the very start of our home summer. He could play if absolutely necessary but we don't want to take any unnecessary risks, hence calling in Ben for this first match. Ben's familiar to the team environment and it's been good to see him back at full fitness for the [Wellington] Firebirds,” Stead was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.

The 25-year-old Sears, who is yet to mark his ODI debut, has little experience as he has featured in six T20Is and was part of the ODI squad in the Chappell-Hadlee Series against Australia, last year. With 36 wickets in 29 List-A matches at an average of 33.77 and an economy of 5.62, Sears adds promise to the squad.

Bangladesh will now travel to New Zealand, recent home series ended levelled

The first ODI between New Zealand and Bangladesh is slated for December 17 in Dunedin, followed by the second and third ODIs on December 20 and December 23, respectively. In their recent test series in Bangladesh, the teams ended in a 1-1 draw.

Notably, Bangladesh secured a 150-run victory in the first match, while New Zealand made a comeback in the second with a resilient four-wicket win, led by Glenn Phillips' outstanding performance. Thereby, he was adjudged as Man of the Match for his valiant efforts.

New Zealand ODI squad:
