Chennai Super Kings rewrote history as they defeated Gujarat Titans in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Registering a massive victory against the defending champions, Chennai won their fifth IPL title, and despite skipper MS Dhoni getting out for a golden duck during the run chase, there is no doubt that the 41-year-old had a big role to play in the title win.

Dhoni has been leading Chennai ever since he was roped in by the franchise back in 2008. Under his leadership, Chennai have won the IPL five times now. There is no denying that the 41-year-old has made a huge impact on the tournament and will be leaving a big legacy.

Furthermore, former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri was of a similar opinion as well; he opined that playing 250 IPL matches is a testament to Dhoni’s fitness, and the amount of love he receives from Chennai fans is an example of his greatness.

"250 IPL matches is a tribute to MS Dhoni's fitness. No one can match the kind of legacy Dhoni is going to leave behind in this tournament. He is called Thala by the whole of Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The love and adulation a guy from Jharkhand receives down south from fans of CSK is testimony to the greatness of this cricketer," Ravi Shastri told Star Sports.

Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets

Talking about the game, Gujarat came in to bat first after losing the toss. Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, and Sai Sudharsan were the stars of the first innings, and they played brilliant knocks to propel Gujarat to a mammoth 214 runs.

Gill scored 39 runs in 20 balls, Saha amassed 54 runs in 39 balls, and Sudharsan amassed 96 runs in 47 deliveries. Coming in to chase the target down, Chennai got a revised DLS target of 171 runs in 15 overs. Through an excellent performance with the bat, Chennai chased the target down, winning the game by five wickets, and became a five-time champion.
