India and South Africa locked horns in the 37th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Both the sides took centre stage on Sunday, November 5 at the iconic Eden Gardens and the Men in Blue continued their dominant run of form as they defeated the in-form Proteas by a whopping 243 runs.

As is tradition, the selection of the best fielder of the match was something that every player looked forward to after defeating South Africa. The likes of Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were the contenders to win the prestigious medal, and once again, in a very unique fashion, the winner was announced through a buggy.

The vehicle with the camera stopped between the contenders, and the camera rotated and ultimately stopped on the winner, who was Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. In a clip shared by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the players can be seen celebrating and hugging Rohit after he is declared the winner.

“Warning, No "Bugs" were harmed in the making of this video, We had a new contender and a new winner this time in the City of Joy, Any guesses?” the BCCI captioned the post.

Virat Kohli’s masterclass helped India overcome Proteas challenge

Talking of the game, the clash began with the Indian team coming in to bat first and getting off to a good start thanks to Rohit Sharma’s quickfire innings. However, it was the partnership between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer that shaped the game.

Kohli scored an unbeaten 101 off 121 deliveries, whereas Iyer amassed 77 off 87 to his name. Furthermore, after significant contributions by Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja in the latter stages of the innings, India posted a total of 326 runs on the board in the first innings.

Aiming to defend the target, the Indian team put in a brilliant showing with the ball once again. Ravindra Jadeja was the highest wicket-taker with five wickets to his name, with Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav taking two each and Mohammed Siraj striking once to bundle out South Africa for just 83 runs.
