Team India completed a 70-run win over New Zealand in the first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 15 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Virat, Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami put up stellar performances to help their side reach their fourth final in World Cup history. In the tournament where India have dominated their opposition convincingly and crushed them with the heaviest of defeats, they were finally tested against New Zealand who weren’t willing to kneel under pressure.

The Men in Blue also felt the heat of the big game as they made quite a few blunders in the field resulting in mis-fields, catch drops and overthrows. However, the fielding coach T. Dilip still lauded the efforts of the fielders who didn’t let the pressure get to them and took crucial catches at important stages. As per the tradition, the fans were eagerly waiting for the fielding medal ceremony video by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) after the end of the game.

And much to fan’s delight, the BCCI finally uploaded the video on Thursday, November 16 and Ravindra Jadeja got the honour this time around. Coach Dilip hailed Ravindra Jadeja as the best fielder in the world and appreciated his gun fielding efforts at point. However, he also acknowledged the fact that the team made several mistakes out in the field.

“It’s not always being flawless on the field. I think everyone makes mistakes but the champion teams are the ones which bounce back from the challenge and the way we showed that commitment and putting bodies on the line was outstanding,” said T. Dilip in a video uploaded by the BCCI.

India one step away from winning a WC after 12 years

Meanwhile, team India will look to end their 10-year-long wait for an ICC trophy by winning the final on Sunday, November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, the Men in Blue last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 on home soil under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
