Pakistan went 2-0 up in the three-match series against Sri Lanka after a completing a stellar run chase in the second ODI at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Star batter Babar Azam showed a terrific return to form with a century after 807 days, smashing an unbeaten 102 off 119 as the Men in Green chased down the 289-run target in the last-over thriller. Babar was also the Player of the Match.

After the impressive win, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed his delight. Sharif congratulated the Salman Ali Agha-led side for completing a series win, as the remaining game has essentially become a dead rubber, with the hosts gaining an unassailable lead. Sharif defined the match as a wonderful play of the spirit of the game.

"I congratulate our national team on winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka, and I commend Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and his entire team for their great efforts. It was a wonderful display of cricket’s unifying spirit," Sharif wrote on his official 'X' handle on November 15.

In the same tweet, Sharif also expressed his gratitude towards the Sri Lanka squad and support staff for continuing with the series despite security threats going around in the host country. Sharif said that Sri Lanka showed a great gesture of friendship with Pakistan by opting to go ahead with the schedule as planned.

"My special thanks to the Sri Lankan players and management. Their participation once again reflects the enduring friendship between our two nations," he added.

The third and final match of the series will now be played on Sunday, November 16, and will be played at the same venue.
