Landing in West Bengal, the Pakistan side arrived in Kolkata to take on the Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in the 31st game of the tournament. Both sides faced off against each other on Monday, October 31.

Ahead of their clash, the Babar Azam-led side did not let go of an opportunity to enjoy the local cuisine of Kolkata. As travel restrictions stopped the squad from travelling around the city, the team ordered some authentic cuisine right at their hotel.

The Pakistan cricket team ordered Kolkata biryani, chaap, kebabs, Shahi Tukra, and the local dessert, Firni, from an online delivery app. In a video shared by the ICC (International Cricket Council) on Instagram, players from Pakistan were seen reviewing the Hyderabadi Biryani and even comparing it to the Biryani in Karachi.

The side resumed training after a two-day break in Kolkata as the players were captured putting in the hard work ahead of their clash against Bangladesh.

Pakistan look to recoup after string of losses

Talking of Pakistan’s performances at the ODI World Cup 2023, having played six games in the tournament so far, the side has only managed to register a win in two games. Winning against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, the Men in Green succumbed to losses against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.

Before their clash against Bangladesh, the Babar Azam-led side took on the Proteas in the 26th game of the tournament. Opting to bat first, subpar performances from the batters helped the side post a total of 270 runs on the board in the first innings.

Aiming to defend the target, Pakistan failed to limit South Africa’s batting attack. Shaheen Shah Afridi was the highest wicket-taker, with three wickets to his name. Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim, and Usama Mir took two wickets each, but Aiden Markram’s knock helped the Proteas chase down the target and win the game by one wicket.

Currently, Pakistan sit in seventh place in the ODI World Cup 2023 standings with four points to their name in six games.
