PSL 2023: Player draft to take place on December 15 in Karachi

The draft for the eighth season of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take place on December 15 in Karachi. The venue has not been finalized yet, will the board will make the announcement soon. The date and location for conducting the player draft were decided only after all the franchises mutually agreed to it.

The eighth HBL PSL will take place in Lahore, Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi from February 9 to March 19 with Lahore Qalandar making an attempt to defend their title. The defending champions will also get the advantage of making the first pick at the drafts. The order of the picking was decided through a draw system which was held at the PCB offices.

“The availability of all top players will make PSL 8 a good event,” said PSL director Usman Wahla.

The chance to pick second and third will go to the Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans respectively. Karachi Kings and Islamabad United will each earn the fourth and fifth chance of picking, in the order. A unique tool determined the order for the following 17 rounds. The first three rounds of the pick will consist of players registered under the platinum category.

The next three rounds will be for the players under the diamond category, followed by three rounds of the gold category. After the nine rounds, the silver category will have five rounds, which will be followed by two rounds each for emerging players and supplementary players that will conclude the 17 rounds of the draft.

The first significant move of the 2023 Pakistan Super League was made by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who switched to Peshawar Zalmi from Karachi Kings. Up to eight players from each team's roster from the prior season can be retained. Following the draft, the teams can have a maximum of 18 players in their squad: three platinum, three diamond, three gold, five silver, two emerging, and two supplementary.
