After the Multan Sultans’ early defeat in this season of the Pakistan Super League, the team is faced with yet another setback as 24-year-old Shahnawaz Dahani has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a broken finger. Dahani picked up the injury during the team’s match against Lahore Qalandars.
Dahani picked up the injury when Sikandar Raza punched the ball down the ground and it hit his hand. It was later confirmed that he sustained a fracture in his finger. He has been ruled out of the entire season of the ongoing PSL, and several reports say that the 24-year-old could be out of action for two months.
Since making his PSL debut in 2021, Dahani has been one of the most important bowlers for Multan Sultans. He picked up 20 wickets in his first season, and his absence will leave a massive hole in the squad of Multan Sultans.
Multan Sultans suffer defeat in opening clash
Multan Sultans faced off against Lahore Qalandars in the first match of PSL 2023. In a nail-biting encounter, it was Lahore Qalandars who emerged victorious. They won the match by one run, as Fakhar Zaman’s knock of 66 off 42 balls was influential for the Lahore-based team.
Mohammad Rizwan's knock of 75 off 50 balls gave Sultans a fighting chance, but it was not enough as they lost their first game of the season. Going forward, the loss of Shahnawaz Dawani could disrupt the team’s plans and Sultans will have to rely on the other pacers that they have in their arsenal.
Sultans have been one of the most consistent teams in the PSL; they only lost two matches last year, including their loss to Qalandars in the final. They will next be going up against Quetta Gladiators on Wednesday, February 15.
