The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement on October 9, Sunday, for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022 which is set to begin on October 16 in Australia. the International Cricket Council (ICC) has set today as the deadline for any alterations to the squads that the teams announced last month for the major tournament.

The initial roster submission date was September 15, and on September 12th, the BCCI confirmed the 15-member Indian squad for the competition, along with four stand-by players. The team's premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, who was one among the 15 players chosen for the main roster was later declared to be out of the competition due to a back ailment, that had kept him out of the international setup previously this year.

On September 23 in Nagpur during the T20I against Australia, the pacer, who had been sidelined since July 14, made his first appearance in almost two months. However, after playing two games, he was injured yet again, which led to him being ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022. The 14 members of the squad have flown to Australia and started training in Perth.

India's tension will come to an end soon

As per recent developments, a report by Times Now suggests that senior pacer Mohammed Shami, who was named as a reserve player for the tournament, is the leading contender to join the rest of the squad in Australia as Bumrah’s replacement. The other players, who are in contention, are Mohammed Siraj and Deepak Chahar.

Siraj hasn’t been at his best of late but has proved worthy on Australian soil which keeps him in the race. On the other hand, Chahar injured himself very recently while playing against South Africa and has headed to the NCA for recovery. However, before making a decision regarding the substitution, BCCI would need to be informed of any recent changes to the contenders' fitness.

According to ICC regulations, competing teams have until October 9 to implement adjustments to their roster, even if none of their players are currently injured. They would have to ask the ICC for consent to undertake any modifications beyond the deadline. A committee will have to approve the same.
