Reports: Gautam Gambhir, BCCI negotiating salary before announcing appointment of Head Coach

Rahul Dravid has ended his Head Coach tenure with a T20 World Cup title win on June 29 in Barbados. Rumors are abuzz that Gautam Gambhir is poised to fill his shoes. The former India opener has potentially shot a farewell video at the Eden Gardens as he will bid adieu to his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Gambhir mentored KKR in the IPL 2024 and the team clinched its third IPL title.
The position was interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape, and Sulakshana Naik with only two applicants, Gambhir and WV Raman. Many reports suggest that Gambhir will take reigns as the new Head coach of the Indian team. According to reports from The Indian Express, Gambhir and BCCI are negotiating the salary before rolling out the official word. Dravid received approximately INR 12 crore per annum for his coaching responsibilities.

It is worth noting that the former southpaw has never held a head coach responsibility, neither on a national level nor in the domestic leagues. His portfolio possesses the mentoring responsibility with Lucknow Super Giants and most recently KKR. He had stepped down from the post of Member of Parliament ahead of the IPL 2024 to focus primarily on cricket.
India will tour Sri Lanka with new Head Coach
Most of the players from the T20 World Cup-winning team have been rested and the second string of the Indian team is in Zimbabwe for the five-match T20I series. The Indian team will next travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series and BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah has confirmed that a new Head Coach will accompany the team. As per reports, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah will give the tour a miss.
