Team India could be handed with a major blow as skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur and seamer, Pooja Vastrakar are unlikely to feature for the side ahead of the crucial Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final clash against Australia. Both sides are set to lock horns for the blockbuster tie at Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday, February 23.

As per reports by the Indian Express, it is understood that the duo cricketers are down with illness and were admitted to a local hospital on February 22, before they were discharged in the evening. Moreover, a call on their availability is expected on match day, some time in the afternoon.

India’s chances will be dented to an extent in the event that Harmanpreet and Pooja Vastrakar are ruled out for the high-octane clash. Additionally, vice-captain Smriti Mandhana will shoulder the responsibility of leading the side in the clash against Aussies, whereas Harleen Deol could be included in the playing XI. Pooja has only scalped two wickets in the marquee event in four outings whereas the skipper has aggregated 66 runs with an underwhelming average of 16.50.

India aim to put a halt on Australia’s dominance

The Aussies led by Meg Lanning are riding high on the back of four consecutive victories in Group A as they comfortably sealed a berth in the final four of the showpiece event. It is worth noting that the side has won five T20 World Cup titles and are vying to add another title to maintain their dominance in Women’s cricket.

On the other hand, with one loss to England and three wins in the group stage, India secured their semi-final spot. However, they face a rather tricky outing as they have been unable to find much success against the Aussies.

Notably, the Aussies have emerged victorious 22 times in 30 outings in the T20Is with India winning on mere six occasions. It remains to be seen if the Women in Blue can put a halt to Australia’s fine run in the high-octane tie on Thursday, February 23.
