India Women defeated South Africa Women by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2, and the entire nation is eager to celebrate their historic triumph.
According to reports from Hindustan Times, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday. The report further stated that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) sent a formal invitation to the BCCI on Monday.
The team is currently in Mumbai and is expected to depart for Delhi on Tuesday evening. Following their meeting with the Prime Minister, the players will head to their respective homes. As of now, no official victory ceremony or parade has been planned for the World Cup-winning team. A final decision regarding celebrations is expected after the ICC meeting in Dubai in the coming days. The Prime Minister had earlier congratulated the Indian team on social media.
“A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports,” wrote Modi on X.
For now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash prize of INR 51 crore for the World Cup-winning Indian women’s team. The amount will be shared among the players, support staff, and selectors.
According to reports, while the exact distribution structure is yet to be finalised, each player, along with head coach Amol Muzumdar, is likely to receive between INR 2.5 to 3 crore, while the support staff members are expected to be awarded around INR 25–30 lakh each.
Speaking about the game, India Women posted 298 runs in 50 overs, with Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma anchoring the innings. In response, Laura Wolvaardt fought valiantly with a century for South Africa, but Deepti’s five-wicket haul turned the tide in India’s favour as the hosts clinched their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title in history.
