Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in a major blow to India. Bumrah suffered a back injury in August 2022. He did, however, returned to action in September 2022, when he played two T20Is at home against Australia but was forced to a lengthy break from the game as his injury resurfaced.
Bumrah was expected to make a comeback by the third Test of the four-match series, but is now ruled out of the entire series as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly do not want to risk him with the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India later this year.
The right-arm pacer was withdrawn earlier from the Sri Lanka ODI series in January 2023 for the same reason as hit fitness levels were not determined and the management opted not to put him into action to keep him completely fit for the 50-overs World Cup. Bumrah was also named in India's T20 World Cup squad but was replaced by Mohammed Shami.

As per a report published by the Telegraph, it is yet to be determined as to whether Bumrah will be available for the ODI series against Australia, and his chances to make it remain bleak.
“Bumrah has been undergoing full-tilt bowling sessions at the NCA for the past few days and has pulled up well. There has been no stiffness the following day, which is the most encouraging part for him,” the Telegraph quoted sources as saying.
Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and working on his skills with the white ball. A rest from the Border Gavaskar Trophy gives him more time for rehabilitation.
